You can build good credit by not getting into debt and paying your bills on time. At your age though, it is hard to build credit cause you really are not borrowing yet. You may end up borrowing if you buy a car, school loans and maybe using a credit card to purchase school books, but you have to make sure that you pay all those bills on time to build your credit. What should most be looking at is saving your money. Finding places to put your money that give you higher rates of return, like an ING account www.ingdirect.com or talking to your bank about those kinds of options. Make sure it is someone you trust with your money and don't give out your information to just anyone, especially if asked for in any e-mails. Never respond directly from an e-mail, but go directly to the website if money and your credit are involved. Hope this helps.
Welcome Jeff. It's nice to see a young man off to a good start! I have two sons, now in their 20's. They both started working when they were about 14 )because they wanted to). They worked at a little mom and pop type fruit stand and made some real good money and saved most of it. When the one son got married at age 20 he had about $16,000. saved up from his jobs. The other son had about $12,000. and he also put himself through a two year college and paid for it himself.
So, I commend you for even thinking about money in the right way at such a young age.
